How many years have you been brewing beer?

32+

How did you get started with brewing beer?

I started with the G. Heileman Brewery in La Crosse in '78 right out of college. Began as a 3rd shift lab tech with the thought that the brewery would be a good place to work until I figured out what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. After 32 year in the same brewery it is apparent that I never figured it out.... ;)

What is your favorite type of beer to brew and why?

Most styles, if made properly, can provide pleasant challenges but if I were to pick one it might be Porters. I've brewed them many times and while all were quite good there were a couple where the stars aligned and they turned out superb......this lightning-in-a-bottle quest is what drives me to brew most styles.

What is your favorite style of beer and why?

Tough question....I like so many styles....most really. If I had to live with one the rest of my life it would probably be a Dortmunder or Marzen/Vienna Lager....Nice maltiness with good noble hop character.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us?

My favorite beer is the one in my hand. Cheers!
